The company's reactor products have successfully secured an order for a large-scale industrial application unit of dimethyl carbonate (DMC).

  Recently, the company signed a contract for the supply of first- and second-stage reactors for the 100,000-ton-per-year DMC unit at Ulanqab City Xufeng Heyuan Chemical Co., Ltd. This order marks another successful implementation of the company’s research and development achievements in recent years.

  This project leverages proprietary technologies developed by Hubei Yitan, Tianjin University, and China Fifth Ring Engineering Corporation, with overall design oversight provided by China Fifth Ring. Notably, the first- and second-stage reactors were designed and manufactured by our company. The process primarily focuses on recycling off-gas—specifically, mineral heat furnace gas—from Xufeng Heyuan Chemical Co., Ltd.'s existing ferroalloy facility to produce high-value-added methanol. By employing a liquid-phase oxidative carbonylation method for methanol production, the project enables the circular utilization of tail gases from the mineral heat furnaces, while simultaneously capturing and utilizing CO2 to manufacture electronic-grade dimethyl carbonate.

  Dimethyl carbonate (commonly known as DMC) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C₃H₆O₃. It boasts notable properties such as excellent miscibility, rapid evaporation, strong degreasing ability, and low toxicity, making it a crucial intermediate in organic synthesis. DMC is widely used as an essential component in lithium-ion battery electrolytes.

  According to the Implementation Guidelines for Energy Conservation, Carbon Reduction, and Transformation Upgrades in Key Areas of High-Energy-Consuming Industries (2022 Edition) released by the National Development and Reform Commission, significant opportunities are emerging for the resource utilization of tail gas and waste gases from the ferroalloy industry.

  Since 2014, Wuhan Donghai has been conducting research into the large-scale industrial application of various production processes and key equipment for dimethyl carbonate. The company has developed critical equipment such as reactors tailored to different process routes, including the ester exchange method, the liquid-phase oxidative carbonylation of methanol, and the direct conversion of carbon dioxide with methanol. Additionally, in-depth studies, trials, and experiments have been carried out focusing on optimizing reactor-catalyst compatibility, addressing reaction medium corrosion, ensuring operational flexibility, and tackling challenges related to equipment manufacturing, maintenance, repair, material selection, and the availability of suitable materials.

  This time, Xufeng Heyuan Chemical Co., Ltd. has selected Wuhan Donghai to supply the first- and second-stage reactors for its 100,000-ton-per-year DMC plant, a clear testament to Wuhan Donghai's outstanding achievements in R&D and its advanced technological capabilities in key equipment for DMC production facilities.

  During the preparation and implementation of this project, our company engaged in thorough discussions with technology patent holders, engineering firms, and end-users, laying a solid foundation to ensure smooth project execution and successful outcomes. At the same time, this collaboration will further enhance our company’s capabilities in reactor product R&D and facilitate the advancement of application technologies.
